Torghast Tower

Zovaal, better known as the Jailer, is an ancient being who rules the realm known as the Maw in the Shadowlands. Very little is known about him, since nothing has ever escaped the Maw and no one has ever seen the Jailer himself—or at least, no one has seen him and lived to tell the tale. Sylvanas Windrunner allied with the Jailer after the events of Edge of Night, and the two have been working toward a common end for some time. As she fed the Maw with new souls, both she and the Jailer have grown more powerful.

Once, the Jailer kept only the most dangerous souls in the cosmos confined in this eternal prison, called Torghast. Its spire points directly at the spire of Icecrown Citadel, implying a connection between the two structures. Now, some of Azeroth’s greatest heroes are trapped here, and you’ll need to rescue them from the Jailer’s tower before he expends their very souls. With his bindings broken, the Jailer intends to reclaim what was once his. He also has his sights set on the soul of Azeroth.

Torghast is an endlessly replayable, ever-changing dungeon that you can challenge alone or in a group. Your runs will differ each time, but you’ll need to explore cautiously. Death comes at a terrible cost. Defeat enough of Torghast’s unpredictable challenges, and you’ll be rewarded with unique abilities and items to ensure your present survival or bolster your next run. The further you progress, the greater your likelihood of retrieving materials to craft the legendary weapons and armor that will help you restore balance to the Shadowlands.

You are directed to Torghast several times in the Shadowlands campaign. The first time is late in the Revendreth storyline when Prince Renathal, freed from a cage in the Maw, sneaks himself, the Maw Walker, and his enchanted sword into Torghast to free some more allies.

Later, after you have joined their covenant, the second chapter of your covenant campaign will send them to Torghast multiple times to be introduced to the wings and to free some Azerothian champions, like Baine Bloodhoof, Jaina Proudmoore, Thrall and Anduin Wrynn. Additionally, they will unlock access to the Runecarver, who will create and upgrade legendary items over the course of the expansion.
